Message from our President
“Serve to change Lives”
As we struggle to stay motivated and fight off the fatigue that long-term lockdowns produce, I want to acknowledge our club and its membership for the efforts that each are making to stay connected and find different ways of engaging. We may not think we are doing much but let me explain otherwise.
I am aware that each of the service teams are meeting regularly, either by zoom, or email or a combination of both and planning is in progress for our projects, sponsorship and fellowship opportunities once allowed out and about again.
We are contacting the local schools via email reaching out to offer assistance to their school communities if and as required.
Thanks to the efforts of Geoff Gartly and Larry Green, a very successful and fun evening of Trivia was held. This was followed by Jo Impey’s cooking class a couple of Sundays back, a great evening of chat, laughter, and cooking. Watch out to the chefs in this club, Jo is hot on your heels.
Highly recommended again on this coming Thursday evening 9th September 7.30 pm start, AFL Trivia night. Don’t forget to wear your footy team colours!!!!!!! Our masters of ceremonies will be Geoff Gartly and Ron Brownlees
But wait, there is more:
6th September, zoom session – “engaging and connecting with our Rotary Alumni” 7-8 pm
16th September, zoom, “International Service Foundation Projects “60 minutes” 7.30-8.30pm
And
The opportunity to connect into the Zone 8 International conference on this coming weekend, 11th and 12th September. The registration cost for this event is $25.00 for the two days.
All the information and links to the above will be found on the Rotary District 9810 website here
I am looking forward to this week’s meeting as our guest speaker is Mr. Brad Rowswell. MP State Liberal member Sandringham. I am delighted that Brad has found the time to speak with our club.
One last thing.....as this week is Jewish New year, I wish the following:
To our members and wider circle of friends of the Jewish faith, I wish you a happy Rosh Hashanah, enjoy the celebrations.
Stay Sane, Stay Healthy, and Stay Connected.
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

In view of the fact that Zoom will continue to be with us for some time, I thought it timely that I remind members of some principles of Zoom etiquette. Like in any meeting, it's about respect and simple good manners.
I have endevoured to list some of the more common ones here and ask that members try to observe them.
As a rule, please don't assume that because it's a Zoom meeting that your behaviour should be any different than if you were meeting in person.
The meeting was held on zoom. The chair was Ian Ballantine and the speaker was our member Paul Ferguson. Paul went as an observer when the Interplast Team went to Laos in February 2020.
On Sunday evening, member Jo Impey conducted a fun get-together on Zoom with members to prepare a delicious fish pie, having already circulated the recipe.
Jo's Fish Pie Jo demonstrated her Fish Pie recipe tonight on Zoom. Simple and so tasty. Quick to make and just as quick to eat with mashed potato and salad A recipe that could be used for a dinner party Excellent Jo, thank you. PS Only a small amount of Fish Pie remains Faye Weeks
When my father was around 2 years of age he suffered a nasty burn to is leg when caustic soda got down his sock, it was some time before the burn was discovered but when its was it was more than nasty and doctors had started talking about amputation as there wasn’t enough skin in the area for it to heal. .....
The chair was shared between President Helen and Tim Lynch. The guest speaker was Sean McCarthy, whom Tim met in the course of organising his shop for rental. Tim introduced Sean to members.
We believe that exemplifying and embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) should be a part of everything we do at Rotary.
To ensure we live up to that ideal, the Board of Directors and our DEI Taskforce acted to strengthen the DEI statement originally adopted in 2019. The result is in a new commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion:
In a meeting, participants who wish to address the meeting or ask a question, please use the “Raise Hand” function. Remember to lower it after you have had your turn.

Paddy & Mick find three grenades, so they decide to take them to a police station. Mick: “Paddy, what if one explodes before we get there?” Paddy: “We'll lie and say we only found two.”
