Message from our President

From the Desk of President Margaret

I am pleased to report that almost all club members have now voted to support the Zone 8 Regionalisation Pilot Programme, with no members voting against. I will therefore vote “yes” on behalf of the club at the appropriate time.
The Board had its meeting on 7th September. Please refer to the minutes for activity and decisions of the various service committees. At the meeting, I was told by the Board to report that the club forum, held on the 7th September club meeting was only an “awareness” session. The Board also vetoed the formation of the Market Review Committee stating that the current Market Committee is “doing a good job” and that a Review committee would be redundant. Therefore all members who have ideas/suggestions on market issues are to communicate directly with market committee members viz. Ron Brownlees, Peter O’Brien and Grant Perry. The Board also approved to amount of $3,500.00 to be spent on advertising for the market.
On the other hand, the Fundraising Options Group, which was approved by the Board at its August meeting will remain. The purpose of this group is to explore other means of fundraising as the club has been dependent ( almost exclusively) on the market to raise funds for too long. This is akin to “putting all our eggs in one basket” which is high risk, as demonstrated in the past 2 years with covid lockdowns preventing the market from operating.
The convenor of the Fundraising Options Group is Greg O’Shea. Tim Lynch and Linda O’Brien are the other 2 members. Again, if members have suggestion/ideas on fundraising activities, they can contact members of the group.
I also wish to inform members that Peter Nolan has withdrawn from his President Elect position as he plans to relocate interstate in the foreseeable future. As the AGM is only 2 months away, the Board has decided to keep the position vacant and have it filled at the AGM. Greg O’Shea will convene the Nominating committee and all members are welcome to nominate themselves or any other member (with his or her consent) to any position.
On a brighter note, some members of the club were at McKinnon Secondary College on Friday 9th September, supporting the Interact Club run the sausage sizzle stand. Thank you to Tim Moran, Julie Reid, Ron Brownlees and Peter O’Brien for your time and effort. The students the Interact club and the teacher were very appreciative of the support.
Remember that the District Governor is visiting the club on Wednesday 14 September.

Have a good week.

Thanks everyone
With every best wishes
President Margaret Mason
