Message from our President

“Serve to Change Lives”

CONNECTIONS:
Rotary creates connections, we all need to be connected within our lifetime.

Connecting with others is more important than we may think. Social connection can
lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy and actually improve our immune system.
By neglecting the need to connect (which lockdown has definitely impacted on) we put our health at risk.
Connections are a sign that our club is healthy, can withstand sudden changes, information can be exchanged more quickly and members are able to understand concepts more readily.
Not to mention the feeling of inclusion.

With the importance of connections in mind, feeling more confident that the covid roadmap for Melbourne out of lockdown is crystallising and we have an expectation of dates, here is my understanding and our club’s way forward.

At 70% double dosed, expected date 26th October, 50 fully vaccinated can meet outdoors at pubs, clubs, etc. So once that is confirmed we will organise a social catch-up.
At 80% double vaccinated, can attend indoor restaurants at a number that will accommodate our club and any invited guests. That expected date is 5th November.
So,
An unofficial breakfast booking has been put in place at the Royal Brighton Yacht club from 10th November onwards for each week, until the end of this year, except for 24th November when we meet at “the Healey” for our AGM.

Just a matter of weeks now when we can get together again face to face.  CAN’T WAIT!!

Looking forward to welcoming John Roskam to our club meeting this week. John is Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs. A very busy gentleman who has kindly agreed to share some of his time with our club and provide some insight into the organisation.

As always, stay safe everyone, value your connections.

With every best wish
Helen Nodrum

The Best Chance to Eradicate Polio is Now
Taken from Rotary website

“There’s something about the whole idea of eradicating polio that grabs the imagination,” says Aidan O’Leary. “Most people talk about making steps toward achievements, and it’s almost always into the never-never. Eradication is a zero-sum game; anything short of zero is failure. You keep getting closer and closer, but ultimately the only number that actually matters is zero.”
