Message from our President
THIS WEEK’S MEETING IS “WEAR A HAT DAY”.
Hoping you will all join in and wear a hat to this week’s meeting, whether silly or sensible in style.
The month of October is “Mental Health Awareness”
Sunday 10th October is officially World Mental Health Day on each year’s calendar, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of this focus.
Statistics lead us to understand that 1 in 5 people suffer a form of mental health illness each year – a very alarming statistic.
So, what are some of the triggers that can cause mental health deterioration
Genetics. ...
Environment. ...
Childhood trauma. ...
Stressful events: like losing a loved one or being in a car accident.
Negative thoughts. ...
Unhealthy habits: like not getting enough sleep, or not eating.
Drugs and alcohol: Abusing drugs and alcohol can trigger a mental illness. ...
Brain chemistry.
As individuals how can we take care of our own mental health
Keep exercising
Get enough sleep
Eat well
Find ways to keep in touch
Practice laughter
Practice gratitude
Stay positive…………..things will get better
Reach out if you need help – don’t suffer in silence
Looking forward to welcoming our RYLA sponsored candidate, Claire O’Brien, to our meeting this week. Claire will just introduce herself to the club and provide a brief background as to why her interest in RYLA.
Welcome also to Ken Mirams, who does an almighty amount of work for rotary in the youth protection space.
Plans are in place for face-to-face meetings, as soon as the roadmap out of lockdown will allow, when this does occur, we will provide members the opportunity for reconnection and fellowship instead of guest speaker for one or two meetings.
There will be an end of year function in some format or another – that is a promise.!!!!!!
Lastly it is time for all to turn attention to the AGM of the club which will take place on Wednesday, 24th November. Hopefully we will be together offsite at “The Healey” on this day (watch this space – planning has become very flexible)
Margaret Mason has included in this bulletin all the constitutional requirements for our AGM – encourage everyone to have a read.
