As Cilantro was closed due to school holidays last Wednesday was a fellowship evening at the Cheltenham RSL. It was a very enjoyable evening, with about a dozen people attending,, not all off of whom were members.
This week’s meeting is also an evening social event. It will be at the Moorabbin Air Museum and will include a meal and a tour of the museum. If you have never been to the museum, or perhaps not for sometime, then this would be a good opportunity for you and family. As well being able to mingle with other members.
Now, for a Rotary message. Long serving members are aware that Rotary International (RI) has designated each month with a particular theme, such Peace, Sanitation or Leadership. Though as society has changed so have the themes, including focusing on programmes or concerns for a week or even a day. This month has been declared Mental Health Month, Clubs are encouraged to promote mental health awareness and Rotary programmes that support awarness and research.

Market Report: Chilly, breezy but dry
Very disappointing that there were only two of us to set up the market.
We had two young ladies playing violin outside the office and our other busker at the end of the main row. Cool weather and lack of sun resulted in reduced pedestrian flow early on. Certainly picked up once the sun came out. My thanks to Bert – a great help and great company.
Important message to Market Leaders: New Computer
The iPad is NO LONGER. Entry of Market Report and Try Booking access is now done via new computer in the office. The procedure for its use is in the office.

Mini Globe Race competitor and Rotary ambassador Jasmine Harrison is currently sailing solo from Thursday Island to Cocos (Keeling) Islands in her 19-foot Rotary-branded yacht Numbatou, more than halfway through her world traverse.

WHEN we last caught up with Jasmine Harrison, she was 7,000 miles into her globe-spanning adventure, on her way to the Marquesas islands. Now on leg three of the Mini Globe Race, en route to Cape Town, Jasmine enjoyed a month-long stopover in Fiji, which completed leg two of the race. The novice sailor, who set off from Portugal in December, has now sailed more than halfway around the world, over 12,000 nautical miles.
About 14 members and partners attended the fellowship evening at Cheltenham RSL last Wednesday evening. As members are aware we have to seek alternative venues when Cilantro closes for term breaks. We had a very relaxed evening and, speaking for myself at least, enjoyed an excellent meal.
Ian Ballantine and partner and fellow member, Helen Parker attended the Club meeting of the Oakleigh Clayton Huntingdale Rotary Club last Monday (Sept 22) evening to welcome back Ethan Newnham, recipient of Rotary Global Grant to attend Oxford University, UK.
We were joined by PDG Bob Richards of Sandringham RC. Also in attendance was Jane Mulcahy of Moorabbin RC.
Ian Ballantine presented an International Toast featuring the Rotary Club of Kharkiv International. This club has a membership of about 22 and is located in a region near the eastern border with Russia. Thus, it appears that its projects have a focus on the support of the local population and its involvement in the conflict. Projects include procurement of ambulances, clothes and and support for children who are victims of the conflict. The club gets considerable support through its relationships with overseas Rotary clubs in places like Scotland, England and Brazil.
Linda then got us all up and enjoying ourselves in a quiz game of Heads and Tails. - won by Larry Green.
Members will recall that prior to International Convention this year the RI President Elect (President 2026-27), SangKoo Yun withdew from the role for health and personal reasons. Story HERE.
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Rotary International President-elect SangKoo Yun.
A dedicated Rotarian, visionary leader and compassionate advocate, SangKoo inspired many with his commitment to service and peace. His courage in the face of illness and his unwavering love for Rotary will be fondly remembered.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and Rotary colleagues worldwide. May his legacy of Service Above Self continue to guide and inspire us all.
Members Ron Brownlees and Julie Reid attended a students Market Day at McKinnon Secondary College at which the Interact Club, sponsored by our Club had a stall.
Our meeting this week was chaired by Jo Impey and our special guest speaker was Janette Etherington form the RC of Nunawading. Paul Ferguson and Larry Green attended the meeting via Zoom.
Janette attended our Club on behalf of Interplast - she holds the title of Coordinator – Rotary Engagement with Interplast. As most members should already be aware our very own Paul Ferguson serves Interplast as a member of its Board. Members should also be aware that our Club, and its members has been a very generous supporter of Interplast.

I am very happy to convert your news into a story which will then appear in the Bulletin, but, more importantly, appear on our Website.
This will show any people coming to our Website what our Club is involved in and the projects we support.
So, please take some photographs and put together some words - I will do the rest. Please send me your photos in the highest resolution possible via email or WhatsApp. I will do the cropping etc. Please DO NOT send pics via SMS (MMS). These are next to useless.
Also, don't bother creating the article in Word or similar-just adds work. Just send the words and a few pics. I will do the rest.

A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
