Ian Ballantine and partner and fellow member, Helen Parker attended the Club meeting of the Oakleigh Clayton Huntingdale Rotary Club last Monday (Sept 22) evening to welcome back Ethan Newnham, recipient of Rotary Global Grant to attend Oxford University, UK. We were joined by PDG Bob Richards of Sandringham RC. Also in attendance was Jane Mulcahy of Moorabbin RC.
With the support of the Rotary Foundation and Rotary Clubs around Victoria, Ethan has had the privilege of undertaking the MSc in Neuroscience at the University of Oxford this year. Having just completed his studies, he was excited to have the opportunity to return to Melbourne and thank Rotary and tell us about the incredible year he has had.
Ethan gave a great address and told us about his successes in the academic, sporting and romance areas.
He has successfully completed, with honours his Masters Degree in Science.
The big news of the evening was that we learned that such was his success that he will shortly be returning to Oxford, by their invitation and at their cost, to pursue his Ph D over the next four years. What an amazing young man and Rotary should be justly proud. As Ethan said, with Rotary's backing his entire life has opened up before him and will allow him to pursue his dream of doing research into this most challenging field.
We look forward to getting regular updates from Ethan and hopefully will have another opportunity of meeting him again in person.
