Message from our President
“Serve to change Lives”
Well, here we go back into lockdown 6.0
That was one of the shortest reprieves in history. So back to Zoom we go.
This week’s meeting welcomes our DG Daryl and Jenny Moran. Great to have them join a club meeting and for all our members to have the chance to engage at district level.
DG partners’ project this year is “Days for Girls”. I am looking forward to learning more about this Rotary service arm from Jenny and do assure her of our clubs support.
Don’t forget about the option of getting involved with service projects. To kick start this agenda the Crime Prevention Police are organising a “Safe Plate Day”. Looking for volunteers to assist between 10am and 1pm on Saturday 29th August, at Glen Eira Town Hall. I wish to encourage any of our members who are able to negotiate the art of using a screwdriver to consider volunteering – and don’t forget on the day to wear your Rotary identifications, clothing and high visibility vest (we will get the market vests for those volunteering).
In order to honour our agenda of working in collaboration with Glen Eira council a few of our club members accepted the invitation to attend a zoom meeting on Friday last 6th August, which was to engage stakeholders and gain feedback on the concept of “Smart City Roadmap Strategies”.
A smart city uses smart digital technology, data and innovation to make cities more liveable, productive and sustainable. Thanks go to Grant P, Peter OB, Alan K, and yours truly for taking the time to be involved in the discussions and for waving the Rotary flag at this meeting. The outcomes of the discussion and meeting will add to
“A Shared vision and Accountability” and assist to “Balance Change Innovation with the History”.
Stay safe everyone and keep connected whilst we are locked down.
Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum

Gordon R. McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, Lothian, Scotland, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2023-24. He will be declared the president-nominee on 1 October if no challenging candidates have been suggested.

The function was hosted by the Rotary Club of Nunawading and Fred Hay from the Rotary Club of Waverley assumed the role of our first District Governor.
The incredible storm that swept through the Dandenong Ranges on the late evening of June 10thleft a trail of devastation and destruction behind it and the nine or ten D9810 Rotary Clubs in the Hills in particular, were greatly affected.
The meeting was held on Zoom. The chair was Julie Reid and the guest speaker was Pat Armstrong.President Helen welcomed members and the guest speaker. She then advised that she attended the District Presidents meeting on line.

My apologies for mis-reporting the team in last week's Bulletin from Sunday, August 1, Faye Weeks was our willing and capable assistant. (not Terry Kane as reported) Ian Ballantine
Report for last Sunday, 8th August
Perfect day for a Market; cool and sunny.
No overnight parkers to worry about. No complaints from Stall Holders or Pedestrians.
No one in the queue and no late arrivals. Police did not need to attend.
No tables or racks left out to collect later, Top team rostered Geoff Gledhill, John and Margaret M.
No show by Moorabbin. Coin counting and collection was easy for a change; no problems.
Ron didn’t turn up for a change and didn’t even issue a long memo.
(But he had made extensive preparations)
No one caught covid and there were no illegible entries in the check in book.
Nothing to report for next week’s team to worry about. Let's hope for better next week.
John Mason
