Board Motion Requiring Members' Approval

The following motion was moved on behalf of the International Committee and approved by the Club's Board at the Board Meeting held on Monday, September 7, 2026:

Motion

That the Club make a donation of $10,000 to Interplast. Interplast works across the Asia Pacific region to improve access to safe, timely, and appropriate surgical, medical, and rehabilitation services. Our programs focus on building local capacity through training, mentoring, and strengthening health systems so that communities can access care that transforms lives. More info HERE.

As this amount was $5,000 or more, it required the approval of Club members. This motion was put to members at the normal Club meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 and passed unanimously.

It was a great honour to have the District Governor, Emma Clark, visit our club last Wednesday. (pictured at right)

This Wednesday is an evening meeting at 6:30pm. The guest speaker is Misha Coleman, CEO of Interplast. Our own Paul Ferguson is a member of the Board of Interplast. The menu is an option of 5 meals to choose from. Register HERE.

I phoned Lilly Setnik a few days ago. Lily is the District Rotaract Representative of District 9815 for the year 2026/27. She will be the guest speaker on 9th December.

Interplast in Samoa

Last year, you may have read about Dr Ben Norris and his fundraising efforts to get a volunteer surgical team to Samoa. Thanks to the support of his generous network of patients, friends, colleagues, and incredible supporters like you, a volunteer Interplast team has returned from a successful surgical program in Apia, Samoa, delivering critical care to many children and adults.

Dr Ben Norris and his fellow volunteers, reconstructive surgeon Associate Professor Damian Marucci, nurse Norma Schwalger, anaesthetist Dr Alan Goodey, theatre nurse M-J Laing, hand therapist Katie Anjou, and anaesthetic nurse Caz McLoughlin, have been visiting Samoa to provide surgeries, post-operative care, and training for local partners and clinicians.

Once excluded from membership, women are now leading Rotary at every level, reshaping the organisation through service, courage and a commitment to opening doors for the next generation.

For almost 80 years, women could support Rotary. They organised fundraisers, volunteered behind the scenes and championed community causes, but they couldn’t become members.

1.25 million Rotarians by 2030

As Rotary approaches its 125th anniversary, RI has set an ambitious, yet achievable goal: growing our membership to 1.25 million Rotarians by 2030, while also sustaining at least 125,000 Rotaractors.

This marks the first time the organisation has established a specific multi-year membership target. It’s one of the many ways we’re working to strengthen Rotary’s future.

Marg Lucas was our chairperson for this morning's meeting at Gilberts. Guests included Tony Fritzlaff from Cilantro, and Gary Ramage.

Linda O'Brien stepped in as Vice President to take President Neville's place whilst he was away for a couple of days.

October is Mental Health Month

The following message has been received from District Governor Emma Clark and is worthy of repeating here.

October is Mental Health Month – “Lift the Lid - Hat Day”

A focus on mental health research is a focus for my District Governor year, and in preparation for this month we are encouraging all Rotary Clubs and Rotaract Clubs across District 9815 to host a Lift the Lid - Hat Day at your club in October, in support of Australian Rotary Health’s vital mental health and general health initiatives.

Club Meeting Sept 9 2026 Jules Gaddie

Tim stood up to be our Chair this morning. There were no guests.

Member Jules Gaddie was our guest speaker, at late notice, as our planned guest speaker(s) were unable to attend.
President Neville reported on the Board meeting held on Monday evening. The major motion passed was the Club's proposed donation to Interplast. He reminded members that approval from the membership will be sought at the meeting on the 23rd September.

Jules gave a very interesting address on Cassius Clay, later know of course as Muhammad Ali.

Rosters were sorted and announcements made. In particular members were reminded of two major events approaching - Rio Carnival Ball (details HERE) for the Share a Dream Organisation and the Holland Foundation Ball (details HERE) .

If an event is inviting members to register there will be a button with the word: "Members" below "Online Registration". refer image at left.

Note that you need to be already logged in as a member.
As venues need to be advised of numbers PRIOR to the event, please register by noon on the day prior unless otherwise stated.
If you are not a member, this page will not be of any help. It may still be possible to register for an event as a non member if the event is open to the public.

Note from the Editor re Images and Events

A point regarding the submission of images for the Bulletin and Website: Members are reminded that images have to meet a minimum size requirement, as has been specified for some time in the section at the bottom of this Bulletin. 820 pixels is the minimum size required with larger being better as this allows for cropping. The submission of images via MMS is NOT preferred as they are too small and of inferior quality. Email or Whatsapp is far superior.
Would any member like to take responsibility for the updating of the Club's Event Calendar? I have created a page of instructions here so it is very easy to take over.
