Message from our President

“Serve to Change Lives”
The first of our club’s action plans for this year is “INCREASE OUR IMPACT”.
What is impact:
Impact is central to our club’s strategy; it helps us to know whether we are meeting our mission and long-term vision. It helps us to understand, manage and communicate the social value that our work has created in a clear and consistent manner.
Why measure impact:
Impact measurement can help create sustainable change; it drives value creation for our Rotary club.
As a group, we need to account for our social performance, value the contributions we make, and be credited in the wider community for the work we do.
Ways to measure social impact:
This is not rocket science but it requires some commitment and energy.
-    Engage in conversation with the receiving organisation
-    Plan for the communication of outcome or results
-    How were these donated monies put to use?
-    What difference to the organisation has this donation made?
-    How many lives were impacted and helped or changed through the donation
-    How is the recipient of the organisation reporting back to our club?
-    How will our donation be recognized by them and the wider community aware?
When reporting on impact consider the following:
INPUTS are the resources invested
OUTPUTS are the immediate results
OUTCOMES are the short-term or intermediate results
IMPACT is the long-term effects or end results
So, the challenge that I wish to put to each of us, is to change the way we view the rotary work we do and instead of talking in monetary value talk rather in impact and the difference that our donations make to either groups of or individuals. Start asking how that money will be spent, challenge our benefactors to report back with outcomes, establish partnerships, and maintain communication with those we help.
From a marketing perspective, it is time we appreciated the need for acknowledgment of the work we do. We have to stop flying under the radar so to speak and make sure the wider community knows who we help and the outcomes that donations create.
One of the next steps required here is that the club creates its own marketing material.
We are aware of this need and plan to address this deficit in the immediate future.
This coming Saturday 20th November is the Glen Eira Safe Plate Day. We have accepted the invitation from Victoria Police to be involved in a few different ways, either by screwing on safe plates, engraving, or working at the Rotary information table we will have on the day.
Our Rotary high vis. Jackets will be in use along with our Rotary branded clothing.
It is still not too late to volunteer sometime between 10 am and 1 pm, even if only for an hour. All hands will be welcomed on the day. Details here
Huge thanks to Ian Ballantine for setting up the hybrid meeting format at Royal Brighton Yacht club. Ian was there from 6.30 am making sure the technology was correct and workable. A great effort in an unknown environment.
All our meetings to the end of this year will have the option of a hybrid style, i.e., joining in online as well as face to face at the venue.

With every best wish

Young Ugandan Activist Speaks Out About Climate Change in Africa
Taken from the rotary.org website here
Vanessa Nakate, a 24-year-old climate activist from Uganda, made international headlines after the World Economic Forum’s 2020 meeting in Davos, Switzerland. But the story wasn’t what she said about the climate crisis. The story was that her name and photo were missing from media coverage of the event.
