Message from our President

“Serve to Change Lives”

What do we mean by governance?
Governance encompasses the system by which an organisation is controlled and operates, and the mechanisms by which it, and its people, are held to account. Ethics, risk management, compliance and administration are all elements of governance.
We are now only weeks away from commencing our covid normal pathway forward, when we can enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures, which have been lost in the maze of all our lockdowns.

As we start to open the club up, I want to promise everyone that we will encompass these points of “good governance” in how our board operates and how we deliver service projects and opportunities to all members.

There has been discussion and think tank moments over the last couple of weeks as to how we open up. Whilst keen to start up the market ASAP, we are not keen to expose members to unnecessary risk. For this reason, we wait for 80% double vaccination target to be reached. That anticipated date is 5th November. Now it may come sooner but we are not hedging our bets.
OUR MARKET WILL RE-OPEN ON SUNDAY 7TH NOVEMBER, and not beforehand.
All club members doing market duty and all stallholders must be double vaccinated – this is a public health order and we are legally obliged to follow this.
General public visiting markets are not included here and will be required to QR code in, wear a mask, hand sanitizers, and social distance only.
Acknowledgment and thanks to Ron B who is doing a powerhouse amount of work, in contacting stallholders and assisting them to be ready for our setup and restrictions.

From a face-to-face meeting agenda that date is set as Wednesday 10th November.
We have an unofficial booking at Royal Brighton Yacht club and this will be confirmed in the coming week. The spacing at this venue allows for members to bring along guests to the meetings. We will still have time slot 7am for 7.10am start.

THIS WEEKS MEETING IS AN EVENING MEETING STARTING AT 7.30 PM.
It will take the form of a member forum. The outcome and key points raised in the membership survey earlier will be discussed. Jo Impey and the membership team, with Larry Green as chairperson, will host the meeting.
I look forward to welcoming Alma Reynolds once again to our club meeting.
With every best wishes
Helen Nodrum

Received this week.....
Dear Ian,
Would you please thank your fellow Rotarians for the lovely donation of $2000. We are very grateful for your continuing support of RDA Moorabbin. It has been a hard couple of years with very little income as we have not been able to deliver our full riding program. This year we only managed to have 9 weeks of riding will all the opening and closing. Without support from organization such as Rotary, we would be struggling to feed the horses. It is wonderful that you are one of the ongoing supporters we really appreciate it.
Kind regards,
Jane Baker

The Best Chance to Eradicate Polio is Now
Taken from Rotary website

“There’s something about the whole idea of eradicating polio that grabs the imagination,” says Aidan O’Leary. “Most people talk about making steps toward achievements, and it’s almost always into the never-never. Eradication is a zero-sum game; anything short of zero is failure. You keep getting closer and closer, but ultimately the only number that actually matters is zero.”
