Message from our President

ZOOM MEETING AGAIN THIS WEEK.
As lock down fatigue once again starts to impact the days, I am truly hopeful that we as a state have moved far enough forward to start to come out of Lockdown No. 5.

At this week meeting we will vote on the proposal to donate funds to the “Dandenong Storm Recovery Fund”. This fund has been set up under the direction of RAWCS.
For our newer members, myself included, a little overview of RAWCS.

Rotary Australia World Community Service provides back end systems and project services to all Australian Rotary Clubs for project accounting, donations and fund raising support, management, volunteer support, communications and marketing.
It has a comprehensive Australian government registration providing regulatory compliance for all projects. It is not an emergency response organisation but rather looks to engage in sustainable, developmental and/or relief projects.

Whilst the immediate relief has occurred such as light, power, access and housing and as such the first responders are moving out of the area, the work is yet to start and the load is immense and the damage significant.
It is envisaged that the funds will be dispersed by way of grants given to specific projects. There will be progress reports throughout the rebuild time which will extend over 18-24 months.
The potential for clubs in the affected area to partner with other clubs in 9810 for specific projects is expected and as such our club is open to responding to this initiative.

Local Council in the Dandenong Ranges and surrounds will also serve in this rebuild and our arm of service, Environment and Sustainability may provide us a strategic way forward.

Which brings me to the second point of my message. Peter Nolan has started doing some very positive liaison with Pat Armstrong in the Environment and Sustainability focus. Pat has kindly agreed to speak again with our club on zoom this week to provide some insight, thoughts and ideas as to how we progress here.
I am looking forward to hearing what she has to suggest and acknowledge Pat’s dedication and commitment to this arm of Rotary service.

Best wishes everyone, stay safe and connected.

Regards and all the best,
Helen Nodrum
