Message from our President
From the Desk of President Margaret
In 2021, Rotary International talked of the possibility of two RI Zones in the world being selected to participate in a pilot program that would consider options and strategies that would create a more contemporary structure and provide an environment that would foster the growth and success of Rotary. This has been broadly referred to as "regionalisation".
One of these Zones is our own, Zone 8 which includes Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Timor Leste, Tonga and Vanuatu.
The aim of regionalisation is to provide better and more direct support to clubs by streamlining the existing governance structure. The plan is to eliminate duplication and remove layers of hierarchy to make Rotary viable and more cost effective.
For the pilot project to proceed, all clubs within the zone will be asked to approve the project. This vote is expected to occur in September 2022.
Past District Governor David Tolstrup, who is the District Zone representative, will be attending our meeting on Wednesday August 17th to explain in more detail about regionalisation. All members are encouraged to attend so that we will have a better understanding of this important issue prior to casting our vote. Members who would like more information before David’s presentation can log in to http://creatingtomorrowrotary.org Please take a little time to read this material before David's visit.
Please note this Addendum to the allocation of Roles and responsibilities for Members which was previously circulated….
Ron Brownlees was inadvertently omitted from the Market Relocation Committee and is hereby reinstated Ron has made a significant contribution in the discussion and meetings with Glen Eira Council. My apologies to Ron for not including his name in my earlier memo.
Summary of Board meeting.
On Wednesday 13 July, the Board had its first meeting for the Rotary year 2022/23. Les Martons, our Assistant Governor, attended the meeting. As our committees have yet to convene formal meetings, there was not much to report. However the budget has been set and agreed to by the Board.
The budget for 2022/23 will be as follows:-
Community 50,000 dollars
International 30,000 dollars
Youth and Vocational 25,000 dollars
Rotary Foundation 10,000 dollars
Australian Rotary Health 5,000 dollars.

Today’s meeting was held in the kitchen and canteen at Marriott Support Services in Keys Road, Cheltenham and was a wonderful opportunity to re-engage with an organisation that had a very close and enduring connection with a former club member, Alan Marriott. Linda and Faye collaborated to provide a lovely continental breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, toast and Danish pastries, washed down with orange juice, coffee and tea.
