Message from our President

From the Desk of President Margaret
This is the beginning of a new Rotary Year and the start of Jennifer Jones’ (pictured at right) theme of  “Imagine Rotary”. Jennifer  explained that this Theme is abut dreams and the obligation to chase after our dreams. There are many dreams that people and organisations want to achieve, and Rotary can assist them to fulfil these dreams.
At the local level, our Club has already built partnerships with local organisations such as Calvary Care, Fair Share, and Marriott House to name a few. We want to build on more partnerships and channel our energy to make sustainable and impactful
contributions to those partnerships.
I have circulated a list of member’s allocated committees, tasks and responsibilities. In that list I have tried to make a good fit for member’s talents, abilities and areas of interests. I hope that all members will honour the Rotary ideal of ‘Service above Self’ and pick up the mantle and work to make a difference.
Thanks everyone
With every best wishes
President Margaret Mason

The good things music does for aging brains
From the RI website here.
Carol Rosenstein was watching her husband, Irwin, slip away inch by inch. At one time he had been a brilliant lawyer, a lover of Broadway musicals, a world traveler. But after his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2006, he developed dementia, and slowly everything changed. His gait flattened to a shuffle. The sparkle in his eyes turned into a blank stare. His mood soured. Worsening matters, the medications he took caused hallucinations and extreme agitation. As communication grew more challenging, Carol felt the distance between them growing.

Ken Miller (DGE) and his club of Emerald and District did a great job hosting the event at Southern Golf Club.
I would like to remind members that it will be our responsibility to host this event next year.
