Message from our President

From the Desk of President Margaret
There was a District 9810 DG and Presidents meeting on Zoom on Friday night. The following are items which may be of interest to members.
• DG Ken Miller advised that details, re assisting the areas affected by floods, will be available some time next week.
• There are some areas which required more time with needs assessment because they have been affected by floods the second time.
• Each district has been asked to contribute to the Rotary Peace Bells for the RI Convention. The total amount is $30,000 dollars, which is split between 5 Districts, therefore costing each district $6,000 dollars.
• The District conference in Canberra in March 2023 as well as the RI Convention in Melbourne in May 2023, were promoted. Please note that all members have till 30 November 2022 to register for the District Conference in order to take advantage of the $50.00 per member early
bird discount.
• The RI Convention in Melbourne early bird registration offer will expire on 15 December 2022. The RI Convention organisers are also seeking volunteers for the event. Anyone interested in helping out needs to register to ensure that they will receive training, and also for insurance
purposes. For further information on volunteering, please visit the RI Convention website. You do not need to be registered for the convention to be a volunteer.
• Trish Carr then promoted the SMILE project, which is a RYLA programme on Feb 4th and 5th 2023. It will be held at Deep Creek Golf Club in Pakenham. 2 Members from each club in the district can attend. The cost is $100 for the day. This includes all meals during the day and
dinner at night. Please let me know of you are interested in attending.Trish also made a presentation on how to detect and avoid being scammed in this cyber alert climate.
• Peter Behm then presented the District Projects. One of there is the Incentives Rewards Programme which was discussed at one of our club meetings a couple of months ago. Please let me know if you have registered for the District conference in Canberra and/or the RI Convention in Melbourne, as well as your visits to other club meetings. I will then compile them and forward to the District. I am confident that the club would have accumulated sufficient points to receive a reward.
• The other District project mentioned is advertising the club via business cards. The business card will bear the name of the club, the day, time and venue of meetings and a contact name and number. There will also be a QR code where people can access further information if they are interested in finding out more about Rotary and the club. This will be useful for recruiting new members. The dates, times and venues for the rest of 2022 are in the Bulletin. Please advise Samantha Langridge know if you are planning to attend any of them. This is necessary for catering purposes.
Thank you, and have a nice day.

President Margaret Mason

Bentleigh Festival November 20 2022
After overcoming some minor issues, we were able to attend the 2022 Bentleigh Festival on Sunday 20th November. People started arriving before 10.00am and we were set up around 10.30am. Thanks to Jo Impey and Helen Nodrum for assisting in taking the Rotary marquee down Centre Road to just outside Aldi. The weather was very pleasant until the first of several rain showers swept in from the west. Nothing seemed to deter the thousands of attendees from enjoying themselves at the multiple food outlets and entertainment/amusement attractions. Obviously, the fact that this was the first Festival since 2019 meant that everyone was keen to be there. Plenty of dry spells during the day meant that the marquee was able to dry out before we packed it away.

Market Report: OVERCAST BUT DRY DAY THAT STARTED SLOWLY BUT BECAME QUITE BUSY LATER IN THE MORNING. A COUPLE OF DOUBLE BOOKINGS CAUSED SOME CONFUSION (57 AND 74) BUT WE WERE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE THEM AS MARKET NOT FULLY BOOKED OR OCCUPIED. NOTES THAT OSCAR IN STALLS 116-119 IS AWAY ALL OF DECEMBER AND RETURNS LAST SUNDAY IN JANUARY. SUGGEST THAT ALL REFERENCES TO COVID BE REMOVED.
