Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
I had the pleasure of accepting our club’s invitation to attend the 2022 Kingston City “Woman of the year awards”, held on Friday last at the Kingston Arts Centre. It was a well-attended event but of note 24 women nominated, all of them worthy of the award and high achievers in their work and local communities. Congratulations to Paula Westhead, Executive Officer of Emerge Women’s and Children’s support network and Bronwyn Currie, Director of the National Board/Convenor of the Animal Justice Party in Victoria, Joint recipients of this year’s award. Happy to report we have a full house for our club’s conference dinner at the Marine Hotel on Friday 25th March. My thanks to all club members for their support and inclusion in this event.
As mentioned, this dinner will replace the usual club meeting, which was scheduled for 23rd March, just for this one week.
Dare I say District conference on 26th March at Caulfield. The program looks very impressive and I am assured that many potential club ideas for projects will be on offer through the displays and networking on the conference day.
Our club meeting on Wednesday 6th April will be an evening meeting combined with Inner Wheel club and will be held at Woodlands Golf club, 6.30pm start. Guest speaker on this evening is Matt Finnis, present CEO St. Kilda Football Club. Wear your team colours to this meeting. We require bookings and payment of $45 per head for this prior to the event.
As you may have read in March edition of “Changemaker” –
The Board of Rotary International at its June 2021 meeting resolved that Districts 9810 and 9820 would merge as of 1st July 2024.
The new District will include some 2,000+ Rotarians in over 80 Rotary clubs and six Rotaract clubs and will be known as District 9815, because the number 9815 is halfway between 9810 and 9820. D9810 covers the area from the ‘Bay to the Hills’ in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne from Chelsea to Healesville, while D9820 serves the Mornington Peninsula and Casey to East Gippsland.
As a club I am looking forward to providing our very own Ian Ballantine all the support and encouragement we can muster as he becomes the last DG for district 9810 in 2023-24.
Stay safe and healthy everyone.
Warm regards
President Helen Nodrum
Our guest speaker this week is Tracey Burt who will speak about South Caulfield Community Open Garden - nature strip funding
Access to Foundation grants will help Rotaractors broaden their impact
In 2018, Rotary International President Barry Rassin was visiting Turkey for a district meeting. His hosts took him around to see some projects — but to his surprise, they weren’t Rotary club projects. They were projects of Rotaract clubs.
The Rotary Foundation creates channel for direct humanitarian support in Ukraine region - from the RI website here
In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions.
The meeting was held at Cilantro. Grant Perry proposed the toast to President Srdjan Radonjic and members of the Rotary Club of Nis Centar in Serbia.Serbia is a land locked country in the Balkan peninsula. Serbia has an area of 77.5 km2 and a population of 8.7 million. Nis Centar is the third largest city in the country and has a population of 250000 people.
Thank you to Margaret Mason, Alan Kempton, Peter Nolan, Neville Kruss and Sheryl Zorella along with Ian Ballantine, Asia and Charles and myself who attended the Rotary storm Recovery Festival on Sunday last in Monbulk. A show of support for the clubs in our district was important. Huge organisational component to this day – congratulations to all concerned.
The brainchild for this fellowship evening was Linda O’Brien, beautifully supported by Margaret Mason. So many of our successful socials appear to have these two members in the foreground. In realisation of our community partnerships, the committee of Kings Park Tennis Club readily agreed to allow our club the use of its clubhouse which is well equipped to cater for most functions at no cost. More so to this the club president, George Leighfield attended as bar manager for the evening.
