Message from our President

From the Desk of President Margaret
Thank goodness the 2022 footy season is over! Congratulations to all Geelong supporters.  The 2023 season is too far away for any sort of contemplation so let us focus on something else.

The enthusiasm demonstrated by all members, present at the meeting on 21st September, for the District Incentive Rewards program was very encouraging. Based on member contribution as to what we can do, it would appear that the club can earn at least sufficient points to win a Rotary polo shirt for each member. However, it will be exciting if we can earn the maximum points for a hoodie each. Let us all do our best over the next few months. I will keep a tally and inform District as well as all members on our progress. {click on image for more info)

The program for the first six months of this Rotary year will be available by the end of September. Geoff Gledhill and Paul Ferguson are responsible for program this year. If any of you hear or know of any interesting speakers, please give the name(s) to either Paul or Geoff to follow up regarding a presentation at our club meetings. We can then invite potential members to listen to them. Interesting speakers will hopefully be an added reason for potential members to join our club.

Remember, the club is for all members and it is up to each one of us to keep it interesting and vibrant.
Have a good week.
Thanks everyone
With every best wishes
President Margaret Mason

Re-emergence of polio underscores the need for eradication
From the RI website here

By

The detection of poliovirus, and even cases of polio, in places where it hasn’t been found for years has demonstrated once again that eradicating a human disease isn’t easy, especially in the final stages.

In recent months, an unvaccinated man in the United States was paralyzed. In the UK, poliovirus was detected in sewage. In Malawi, a child contracted polio. And Mozambique announced its first polio outbreak in 30 years.
