Message from our President
“Serve to Change Lives”
It is Sunday morning and I am sitting at home reflecting on the District Conference events over the previous two days. Congratulations to all on the organisational team. The planning, attention to detail and commitment was obvious. The venue perfect, good quality speakers and the theme of “Healthy World, Healthy People” was carried throughout the sessions.
My sincere thanks to all our club members who supported through attendance our Friday night club dinner at the Marine Hotel and the Saturday conference daytime and dinner held that evening. As a club we were well represented and all enjoyed the time.
Given the current times we live in, thought I would like to share some of the snippets from the last conference speaker on Saturday – Mr. Victor Perton, the title of the talk was “Optimism”.
At its simplest optimism is an expectation that good things will happen and that things will work out in the end.
So, why be optimistic?
well, here are some of the personal benefits of optimism
If optimistic you will feel healthier
Studies have revealed optimism is associated with a healthier heart and body
There is a correlation between optimism and longevity
In work and beyond optimism helps you function better as a leader
Optimism has the highest relationship to life satisfaction scores
So along with my favourite word “HOPE” I now add “OPTIMISM”.
Lastly, let’s not forget we have a special meeting coming up on Wednesday 6th April.
We are meeting with the Inner Wheel club at their venue, Woodlands Golf Club. Details here. This will be an evening meeting, start time 6pm for 6.30pm. Very special guest speaker is Matt Finnis, CEO St. Kilda Football club. Football team colours are encouraged on the night.
Cost is $45.00 per head, with drinks at bar prices. I will need final numbers at our zoom meeting this week
Warm regards
President Helen Nodrum
A big reminder that THERE WILL BE NO MEETING ON WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK
It is replaced by evening at the Marine Hotel for the Conference opening. Details here
The crisis in Ukraine is having devastating consequences on civilians as families flee their homes. According to the United Nations, more than 3 million people, most of them women and children, have sought refuge in neighboring countries and across Europe, while about 1 million more people have been displaced within Ukraine.
This week is Mental Health Week and in recognition members were invited to wear a hat to today’s meeting - everyone did with a variety of hats, caps and fascinators in different shapes and colours.
Today’s chairperson was Peter O’Brien, who looked resplendent in “a take on Lawrence of Arabia” wearing the keffiyeh headdress. Can I ask everyone - is there a likeness? Is this Peter O’Brien in a former life??
Access to Foundation grants will help Rotaractors broaden their impact
In 2018, Rotary International President Barry Rassin was visiting Turkey for a district meeting. His hosts took him around to see some projects — but to his surprise, they weren’t Rotary club projects. They were projects of Rotaract clubs.
