Our Chairperson today was Linda O'Brien. Guests this morning included Guest Speaker, from the RC of Beaumaris, Ken Mirams.In addition, we were joined again by Gabriela Ammendola and Bruno Santi.
In all we had 18 in attendance at Cilantro.
Following breakfast we heard from Ken Mirams on the subject of Youth Protection riles and guidelines in Rotary.
Ken spoke of responsibilities of a Club when embarking on a youth project:
- Complete a project description
- Risk assessment
- Insurance form
- Submit to Board and District Insurance
- Minuted Board approval
- Ensure all Rotarians and volunteers have a current WWC
- All are Trained
- Where possibility of "one on One" complete a volunteer declaration and/or police check.
- Keep a record of all attendees
If there is any incident - follow these 5 actions, in sequence:
- Protect the child from further abuse
- Report incident to police
- Remove the accused adult from all contact with youth
- Report the incident to Rotary International and Insurance within 72 hours
- Ensure privacy of all involved is protected
As of July this year there have been several key additions to July 2016 standards, namely:
- Involve and inform families in decisions on how their child will be managed in a Rotary Youth Program
- A greater focus on safety of Aboriginal/Disabled?ethnic children and their cultural needs in Rotary programs
- Manage the risk of child abuse in online Rotary programs
- Rotary Youth Policies are easy to understand, transparent and are implemented by all Rotarians.
