ROTARY CLUB OF YARRAWONGA MULWALA
INAUGURAL “LIFT THE LID ON MENTAL HEALTH WALK 2023”
I had the good fortune whilst up in Yarrawonga recently to join the local Rotary club for their inaugural walk “Lift the Lid on Mental Health”.
This lift the lid walk was the first for regional Victoria by a Rotary club. The walk is part of the national community walk series hosted by Australian Rotary Health (ARH)
The club was delighted when over 200 walkers gathered on the foreshore of Lake Mulwala to participate in the walk. The current chair of ARH, Kevin Shadbolt OAM
and his wife Anne made the trip from Devonport in Tasmania as special guests in support of the clubs event.

The walk was a gentle stroll around the foreshores of this beautiful lake with the intent being that locals and community come together to talk about mental health and help
break down the stigma that continues to plague our society.  Several service and sporting clubs in the town supported the walk by purchasing “walk spots” for the day and/or
setting up marques with information about their clubs and/or sending employees to join in as part of their mental health/wellbeing workplace programs.

The current focus for ARH is in the area of children 0-12 years of age, addressing mental health issues before they grow into teenagers and young adults.
Overall, a very successful day with significant funds raised for ARH programs.
Another wonderful showcase of the great work done by Rotary – “Service above Self”.
