Many current members, past members and Rotarians from other Clubs attended the funeral of John Mason last Wednesday.
John had been a member of Rotary for over 35 years.
I had the honour and privilege of posthumously awarding John's 6th PHF along with presenting the family with a beautiful memorial plaque from the Club in recognition of his service.

Here are a number of tributes from members.....

John had a natural talent as a mentor and could always be counted on to provide advice and counsel when sought. He was not one to impose his opinion unless asked, except of course when it came to his beloved Melbourne Football Club. He was a wise man and most respectful of others and very well respected within our Club and Rotary. He epitomised the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
Ian Ballantine

I will sorely miss John Mason a father figure to me a consultant, and a mentor. It was always good to ask for advice from him because of his great wisdom.
Tim Lynch

John Mason was a true leader whose quiet strength and integrity shaped the spirit of our Rotary Club and inspired everyone around him. He offered unwavering support to his fellow members and the wider community, always stepping forward when it mattered most.
As a mentor, he guided myself and many others with wisdom and generosity, leaving a legacy that will continue to influence and uplift our club for years to come.
Greg O'Shea

I had the greatest respect for John. His knowledge of the Rotary constitution and by-laws were exemplary. John was always the Rotarian to ask if you were unsure about an issue to do with Rotary. I will miss John greatly.
Neville Kruss

John Mason was a builder, an educator, a yachtsman, a poet and punster and an all round ...renaissance man. He was simply the best and most inspiring Rotarian I met in my 40 years in Rotary.

What a privilege to have met and shared time with John through Rotary.  John was warm and fond of sharing a joke, a poetry reading or his special words of wisdom to support his club.  He brought so much to every meeting with his calm presence.  I sincerely wish his dear family much love and support at this sad time.

I have known John Mason for almost 50 years and he was always a person of dignity, honesty, integrity, and humility. He took great pride in his family and all his achievements. We were both Charter members of Moorabbin Central and shared many good times and discussions together, particularly during the club ‘amalgamation’ process. John provided advice and support to many community based organisations during his life of service and will be sadly missed by many. He has left a fingerprint in many community facilities and institutions. He was not just one of natures gentlemen- he was always ‘The Gentleman ’.

My introduction to John Mason was during the merging of the two clubs. My recollection was that John was the second President of the combined Club. He was an exemplary President and much of the success was due to his stewardship.
On a more personal level, John always enquired about my not so interesting working life with a “sold any businesses this week?” What followed was a bit of meaningless banter that made me feel much better about the future.
