Club members and guests had a fabulous last night at Cilantro with everyone enjoying a lovely meal prepared by the students of the Cordon Bleu Cookery School.  Linda O'Brien was chairperson, and guests included our guest speaker Daryl Moran and wife Jenny, Bob Richards, Sue Loeliger and club member partners - Bruno, Ken, Leonie, Julie, Sarah, Ruby and Gary.
GUEST SPEAKER - Dr Daryl Moran - PDG, former school teacher, and now historian and author.
Members were once again privileged to hear from Daryl Moran - a master speaker for presenting stories and this evening's presentation was no exception. He opened his presentation with a reference to this morning's minute of silence commemorating Armistice Day, adding it is important to Remember To Remember.  Members may recall Daryl's last visit to talk about his book In the Fight - Australians and the War in Burma 1942 - 1945, where it reveals Australia's involvement in the war in Burma - "the hidden war".  This evening's talk was about Daryl's most recent book - Resolute - The Australian Air War in Burma 1942 - 1945 that highlights the involvement of Australia's Air Force in the war in Burma under the guise of the British Air Force.  Daryl feels it is important to bring to light the involvement of Australian troops and highlight the efforts, courage and determination, and the suffering the troops experienced, and have this documented before it is forgotten, as so little of it is broadly known.  Daryl and his co author, Andrew Kilsby, have researched extensively to unearth information about the troops, their experiences, and personal details as many are still listed as 'missing in action' after all these years.  Daryl has a personal interest as his father served in the RAAF during WW11, as did the father of Andrew Kilsby.  Resolute was launched at the Shrine in Melbourne on 19/10 in the presence of dignitaries, and many descendant family members of the troops who served in Burma - and who are very appreciative of the indepth research and bringing to light what occurred during the war - much of which was previously unknown to the descendants.  Daryl's presentation included many photos that vividly display the troops' experiences - however it is difficult to capture all that Daryl conveyed in a few short words. Thank you Daryl once again for a wonderful presentation in bringing to light Australia's involvement in the war in Burma.
