GUEST SPEAKER - Nathan Burke
Chairperson Dee introduced Nathan Burke who has a long list of credits to his name.
Formerly a St Kilda footballer, Nathan is a former coach of the Western Bulldogs team in the AFL women's competition, a former director of St Kilda F.C., a regular commentator of ABC Grandstand, a feature writer for Inside Football, AFL analyst for Fox Sports News, co- host on ABC Sunday Session.  He has been recognised with many awards and trophies during his football career and was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2021.   One might expect a former footballer to focus on stories 'all about footy', however, with an audience with varied interests, Nathan spoke on how the game of football (and sport in general) has changed over the years.  Where physical health was the dominating factor for being ready to play sport in previous times, today psychology and mental health has a big impact during all stages of the game - before, during, and after.   Footballers are encouraged to look after their mental health as much as their physical health, and to recognise when to seek professional help.   Players are taught how to handle situations and apply strategies for overcoming sporting setbacks which can be applied equally to other areas of life.  Players are encouraged to seek solutions and take personal responsibility for their actions and their attitude.     Nathan now works as a consultant and motivational speaker consulting with schools, corporates and organisations, young coaches and parents - adding skills are often required for advising 'what to do' and how to take accountability.    Thank you Nathan for your fantastic presentation - enjoyed by all who attended and providing much food for thought.

To finish the meeting - rosters were announced for the next meeting, and upcoming Bentleigh Market on Sunday
