GUEST SPEAKERS - Luke Schmidt (President) and Ben Sheppard (Vice-President) - Cheltenham Junior Football Club.
Luke opened his address by thanking our club for supporting the Cheltenham Junior Football Club in the past, and hopes to have a continued engagement with our club. Luke provided a broad outline of the club, its size, culture, current programs, and future plans. The club has been operating for over 30 years, and is run with 100% volunteers - many being parents of team members. The club has 360 registered team members from ages 5 (Aus Kick) to 18, with15 teams ranging from U/11 - U/19. Five of the teams are female, making the club the largest within the state to have as many female teams. Development forms a large part of the club's operations and in addition to conducting coach and player development programs, the club also runs personal development programs that include inclusivity, mental health, general health and well-being, nutrition, fitness and mindfulness, and First-Aid. Volunteers are the mainstay of the club's operations, with volunteer representation on 16 committees that follow business structure guidelines. Future plans include moving to new facilities that will enable a wider reach and allow expanding their programs to other clubs. Work is scheduled to commence within the next 2 or 3 months, with funding coming from the local council, and federal government. Luke concluded his presentation, answering questions from club members, and thanking our club for our support. Thank you Luke for your informative presentation that was well received and appreciated by everyone present.
