Our club’s legal eagle, Tony Ryan, was our chairperson for today’s club meeting at Cilantro. Jo performed the invocation and toast to Rotary and Australia. Karin joined the meeting via Zoom. President Ron was an apology having flown the coop to see the sights of Norfolk Island.
ANNOUNCEMENTS – Vice President Linda
Rio Carnival Charity Ball
- Linda referenced the Rio Carnival Charity Ball she attended on Saturday night – a fundraising event for Terry Kane’s Share Me a Dream Australia. It was a fun night of dinner, dancing and a Rio Costume competition. Our club was presented with a Charity Gratitude Plaque in recognition of our club’s support over the past 8 years. Funds raised are used to support the local indigenous community on Mindanao for local schools, aged care, and medical projects and facilities in collaboration with our sister club the Rotary Club of South Davao. Terry organizes two fund raising events each year with the next event scheduled for October – Linda urged club members to consider attending.
District Conference – Warrnambool
- All is in place for next week’s district conference. Accommodation has been arranged.
- Buses have been arranged to transport guests to the Saturday night gala dinner – and since BMC is the host club, the first bus is reserved for BMC members/guests with a pickup at 5.45pm.
- A reminder for everyone to bring their costume for the Saturday night gala dinner.
- Conference committee members and volunteers for the registration desk are reminded to bring their ‘red’ T shirts to be worn during the conference
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Youth Report – Helen N reported :
- Holmesglen Tafe Awards night – Glenda has been invited to attend the upcoming Holmesglen Tafe Awards night. Club members are welcome to attend.
- Danny Frawley Centre – St Kilda Football Club – Kellie is organising a fund raising Art Exhibition event to be held at the Danny Frawley Centre
- Helen mentions in her role as Assistant Governor she is in a position to pick up ideas when visiting other clubs in the district. One idea she feels we could consider for our own club, is when arranging sausage sizzles or the like for the purpose of donating funds raised for a particular cause (e.g. scouts), that the recipient organisation arrange some of their own volunteers to participate in the fundraising event. In addition to being personally involved, the participation is relationship building.
International Report – Faye reported:
- Faye mentions this is her last year on the board at International Chair, and with her position becoming vacant – she urged club members to consider taking up positions on the board when they became vacant.
- Faye referenced the High Tea at the Healey fund raising event which raised $5,000. This event was a collaborative event involving International, Community, Social, and Membership committees.
- The International Committee had a budget of $25,000 this year - $16,000 of which has been expended with donations to ROMAC, Interplast, Cleft Palate, Shelterbox, and Share Me a Dream / R.C. South Davao for cataract surgency in the Philippines – which Glenda attended during her recent trip to Asia.
Fellowship Report – Samantha reported:
- The next fellowship event will be an evening dinner at Cheltenham RSL on 10 April.
- There will be a trivia night at Brighton
- The district conference is a main focus for the moment - however, normal social activities will resume when the conference is over.
- The club changeover will be the next main event.
Membership Report – Larry reported:
- Kevin Egan has completed membership paperwork and will be inducted. Kevn is also attending our District Conference.
- The committee is considering other potential club members – and encourages club members to let him know of anyone who may be interested in our club.
