Karin Soster was chairperson for today’s meeting at Cilantro.  Sue Loeliger provided invocation and Neville Kruss provided the loyal toast.   Charles Rener joined the meeting via Zoom. 
Guest was Kellie Carruthers from Marriott Support Services.
Today’s club meeting was Club Fellowship with club committees grouped to conduct committee meetings with a presentation to follow.
 
PRESIDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS – President Glenda Stahel
  • Glenda welcomed guest Kellie Carruthers from Marriott Support Services noting this was a multiple return visit
  • Karin Soster will be acting Club Secretary whilst Neville is in recovery
  • The next board meeting is Monday 20/3 – all board reports to be submitted to acting secretary Karin by Friday 17/3.
  • Next week’s club meeting on  Wednesday 22/3 is an evening cocktail meeting with guest speaker Domenic Saporit from Mentor Match.  Partners and guests are most welcome to attend - please advise attendance to Greg O’Shea for catering numbers.
  • Launch Housing was discussed at the last board meeting 13/2, and will be discussed again at the next board meeting on Monday 20/3.  Information will be provided to club members following the meeting.
  • A letter of acknowledgement has been issued to former president Margaret Mason thanking her for services to Rotary and our club, together with a small gift in appreciation.
CLUB COMMITTEE REPORTS
Community – Linda O’Brien
  • Linda outlined the considerable list of projects undertaken by the committee this year.   Most of the communities budget has been expended. 
  • Ian will place the list on the club website which will be open for public view.
    - Ian plans to encourage all clubs to do the same to increase Rotary public awareness and communication for general marketing and promotion  
  • Upcoming projects and considerations include: equipment for Sandringham Hospital, shelter bags for the homeless, St Kilda Mums, Seeing Eye Dogs
International – Faye Weeks
  • Faye advises a presentation on International committee activities was provided a couple of weeks ago
  • Rotary Foundation has commenced a disaster relief fund for the war in Ukraine, earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and floods in Pakistan
Youth and Vocation – Glenda Stahel
  • Glenda outlined projects undertaken by the committee for this year which includes: Interact, school awards, Applied Learning Awards, Moorabbin Policing Unit – Youth at Risk, NYSF.
  • 2 Rotaractors who attended this year’s District Conference will attend the club meeting on Wed 29/3 and provide an overview of their ‘conference experience‘
  • 4 students who received club support to continue their studies at Holmesglen Tafe will also attend the club meeting on Wed 29/3
  • Future activities include: Bayspeak competition in May/June (club members are encouraged to attend), MITS – Melbourne Indigenous School, Holmesglen VCAL, RYLA
  • RYPEN and MUNA will not be held this year
  • FareShare breakfast will be held over to the next Rotary year when mornings are light again.
Membership – Larry Green
  • Larry encourages club members to invite guests to club meetings – particularly meetings with interesting speakers and topics
  • A formal mentoring program is required for when new members are inducted.  It is important they join a committee – preferably with a mentor on the same committee
  • Using sunshades to promote Rotary was a suggestion made to the committee
  • Larry and his team welcome suggestions for ways to increase membership
Fellowship – Sam Langridge
Upcoming activities include:
  • Mahjong night will be held at The Healey on Friday 30/3 – 7pm
  • Evenings at Arco will be held every 2nd Monday of the month – the next being Monday 3/4
  • Marriot Support Services annual ball will be held on 23/5 – open to all club members to attend
  • Raffle tickets for an ‘Easter raffle’ will be sold at next week’s evening meeting on 22/3 with the funds raised to be donated to Soup Angel – the community committee will match the funds raised up to $500.   Members are asked to donate largish eggs or funds to Sam to purchase eggs for the raffle prize.  Sam will also seek volunteers to participate in a future ‘soup night’
