Margaret Toyas was our chairperson for today's club meeting at Cilantro - our last club meeting for the Rotary year, and President Grant Perry's last as president before changeover. Today's meeting provided an opportunity for committee chairs to present a summary of their Rotary year. Guests included Raj Daniels, Arturo Charlatan and Gary Ramage.MEMBER VOTE
Linda opened the meeting with a motion for club members to vote - details of which were circulated to club members 3 weeks prior following approval by the board and which were outlined again by Linda at today's club meeting.
Motion:
That members of the Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central approve a donation of $9,129 for SECASA - South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault.
Moved: Linda O'Brien Seconded: Neville Kruss Motion carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Grant provided a brief summary of his year, this being his final club meeting presiding as Club President. This was the first year for Rotary Community Groups to meet under the new Rotary Pilot program, with BMC being part of Group 1. Grant also attended meetings at the City of Kingston who are keen to work with local community service clubs.
He thanked the board and committees for their hard work during the year. The guest speakers at club meetings have been excellent presenting on a broad range of topics. A particular highlight was to present a PHF to Clarine Wheeler on behalf of her Rotarian brother in Canada. Some new members have come on board, and some have left, and sadly two have passed away - John Mason, and Roy Kaplan.
On behalf of the club Awards Committee, Grant presented Certificates of Appreciation to the following club members - Ron Brownlees, Neville Kruss, Paul Ferguson, Linda O'Brien, and Karin Soster.
Grant finished adding he would present a more formal summary of his year at changeover.

John Mason - Ron Brownlees paid a tribute to John Mason whom he met in 1982, and had the privilege of working with during his time as councillor and mayor at the City of Kingston (formerly the City of Moorabbin before council amalgamation). We don't often get to hear of club member's outside activities, and John was heavily involved in a wide range of activities that benefited local communities in a professional capacity in the building industry and sport. John was recognised with an OAM in 2018, and has left a lasting legacy. Club members raised a glass to acknowledge John.
Roy Kaplan - Geoff Gartly paid a tribute to Roy Kaplan whom he met through Scouts. Roy was a strong family man, and heavily involved with Scouts for many years where he was promoted through the ranks to Regional Commissioner. He migrated from South Africa and worked in the power industry where his professional skills were utilised in the management of power within Australia. Roy was a quiet achiever, and will be very sadly missed by the industry, Scouts, and of course his family.
