ANNOUNCEMENTS
RDA - Jo Impey spoke of her visit to Riding for the Disabled and displayed photos of the horse that was part funded through a recent BMC club donation. The new horse is 13 hands, seems very docile which is ideal and should provide plenty of riding years well into the future.
Club Changeover - President Tim reminded everyone of the club changeover meeting on Saturday 28/6, and urges club members to RSVP as soon as possible to assist with finalising catering requirements.
GUEST SPEAKER - Club members Bert d'Unienville
We had the pleasure of hearing all about Bert's most fascinating family history that centred around his great great uncle, who was tasked by Napoleon to protect the island of Mauritius and retain it under French control during the Napoleonic wars. In recognition, Napoleon granted him the title of Baron d'Unienville - with the full name Marie Claude Antoine Marrier, Baron d'Unienville. Unienville is the name of a small town in the north of France. Bert displayed a few artifacts that included a huge portrait of his great great uncle resplendent in his officer uniform, his ring that depicted the family crest in the Coat of Arms, and a historical book written by explorer Matthew Flinders who wrote of having met with the 'Baron' in Mauritius. Bert was born in Mauritius, however due to the economic times of the day, at a young age, his family migrated to South Africa. Bert had a very successful career in South Africa in management at Dulux that at one stage took him back to Mauritius, which according to Bert is a most beautiful place. Since moving to Australia where Bert has family and now retired, in addition to playing golf, Bert is researching to import canned South African wine - a product that is popular in South Africa. Thank you Bert for your fascinating talk - you kept everyone captivated.
ROSTERS - these are in the bulletin on the club website.
