CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS
Market Operations - Grant mentioned an issue with our Try booking ticketing system when a stall holder used Google Wallet for payment. One payment processed (as it should), but the confirmation the stall holder receives lists 3 stalls (or something similar). . Hopefully this will be sorted soon.
GUEST SPEAKERS - SECASA - Vanessa and Peta
Vanessa and Peta are consultants from SECASA - the largest sexual assault and family violence service provider in the south east suburbs of Melbourne that includes Mornington Peninsula through to East Gippsland. It was established in 1977 and became a service of Monash Health in the mid 1990’s, and provides counselling and advocacy for individuals who have been impacted by Sexual Assault and Family Violence.
Vanessa and Peta outlined their background - Vanessa joined SECASA 3 years ago as a social worker, and Peta is a counsellor of 20 years. SECASA receives approximately 800 calls per month, of which 125 are from schools or other institutions seeking support for an issue they have experienced. Whilst providing support for victims and affected individuals is a fundamental service, SECASA seeks to provide pathways for prevention and educational programs to young people on body safety, consent, gender equity, and cyber security. The environment around abuse has altered Pre and Post Covid through the use of media and mobile technology for screening and grooming. Peta develops and runs group programs for young people to help break down barriers and provide an environment that is welcoming and connecting. SECASA runs educational programs for schools and community groups, and runs age appropriate programs for years 1 - 10. Parent information sessions are also available. SECASA does not receive any government funding and staffing numbers are limited. Their educational programs are fully booked for Terms 1 and 2 of this year. Vanessa and Peta finished their excellent presentation by answering questions from the floor. Thank you Vanessa and Peta.
