This week saw our club return to Cilantro for our morning club meetings - hooray. How lucky are we to have such a wonderful venue for our weekly meetings. Sue L was our chairperson for today's meeting and we were joined by guests Jules Gaddes and Gary Ramage. Charles joined the meeting via Zoom including 'our team' in Fiji - Ian Ballantine, Helen Parker, Jo Impey, Paul Ferguson, Linda O'Brien, and Peter O'Brien.
Today's meeting was reserved for club matters and provided an opportunity for club members to be brought up to date with current activities within our club.
PRESIDENT REPORT - Tim
Tim welcomed back Sam who has been absent for a while - it was lovely to see her return to the fold.
Tim commended the board for their good work to date.
Tim has introduced a marketing committee for promoting our market and our club. We have re-engaged with Southern FM who have commenced promoting our market on the radio. Plans include a radio broadcast outside our market.
COMMUNITY REPORT - Kellie Carruthers
Kellie provided a handout that outlined her role and that of the Community committee. Included was information on recent activities with an emphasis on the Community Grants program - a first this year for our club. Other organisations supported this year were listed. Kellie has introduced an application process for organisations seeking funds for their cause - which provides process and consistency for evaluation purposes. On the drawing board is a Customer Relationship Management database for keeping track of organisations and the current status of club contacts and communications. Kellie urges new members to become involved.
MARKET REPORT - Grant Perry
A defibrillator has been purchased and installed in the market office - available for use during the market's operating hours.
Grant displayed a training demonstration video for operating the defibrillator. Further information is available from the video publisher's website: aedauthority.com.au
TREASURER - Neville Kruss
Neville provided details of the accounts held by our club and their values. Neville provides monthly reports to the board that capture cash flows, and profit and loss reports.
MEMBERSHIP - Larry Green
7 new members have joined our club during this current Rotary year, with a promise of more to join.
YOUTH / VOCATION REPORT - Glenda Stahel
Most of this year's budget has been expended.
Glenda met with members of the Interact Club at McKinnon Secondary College last week and who are looking to re-engage with our club. Glenda was very impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment to be involved and has welcomed them to do a presentation at our club.
The leaders of the Interact Club expressed a desire for training in self development, and also training in food safety - Glenda suggests RYLA would be the perfect next step for self development, and possibly involve Holmesglen for the food safety training.
Other activities being considered by the Youth/Vocation committee includes working with local police in a leadership program.
SECRETARY - Karin Soster
Karin reminded club members of the need to maintain current contact details on the club website as a means for communications by Rotary International and District including our own club. Club members can update their own details by logging in to the website - however, if assistance is required, details can be passed to Karin for updating.
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Tony Fritzlaff thanked our club for the donation for the Holmesglen Foodbank.
- Neville attended this year's ANZAC dawn service before reassembling for the ANZAC march, advising this is one of his most important days in his calendar.
- Other club members joined various ANZAC ceremonies on ANZAC day.
- Next week's club meeting will include a presentation on Equity Trustees.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP - Glenda Stahel
It is with regret to inform Glenda very sadly advised club members this would be her last meeting at the club due to personal reasons. Glenda has had a long association with Rotary, having joined in the early 1990's. She has held the position of club president twice, and over the years she has represented on various club committees and district committees, citing Rotary as a wonderful international organisation. She encourages new members to 'get involved' as ways for learning more about Rotary - and to reach out and include contact with other clubs and Rotarians, and be involved at District level to broaden their interest and increase their knowledge of Rotary.
CLUB MOTION
The club motion for providing funds to the Moira Kelly Creating Hope Foundation was aborted due to communication difficulties experienced whilst connecting with club members who joined the meeting via Zoom. It is planned the motion will be presented again at next week's club meeting on Wednesday 7 May 2025.
President Tim closed the meeting.
