GUEST SPEAKER - Dee Mason - Podcasting
Dee, a former member of our club, and the daughter of club member, John Mason, attended today's meeting and provided an outline of podcasting - a passion she commenced during Covid lockdown and which quickly developed into a passion.
Dee has a background in graphic art, radio announcing and more recently - podcasting.  She has a degree in town planning and worked in town planning for a number of years before moving overseas and working at the University of Waterloo in Canada.  She commenced a graphic art business that built up to a large number of personnel, however, the business has since scaled down to more manageable numbers operating in St Kilda Road, Melbourne.  She explained her graphic design provides geographic info systems on data modelling and town planning and whilst having taken up podcasting she continues to work as a graphic artist.
Dee created her first podcast for the Treasury Wine Estate where the CEO wanted the company's annual report presented in a podcast for management personnel to listen and which proved to be very successful. Other podcasts have been created for Breastscreen Australia, and Victoria Police. Dee touched on the various podcasting platforms that are available adding that some historical podcasts where research is required has led to some police cold cases being reopened. Podcasting can also be used for promotional purposes, and spoke of a podcast platform called Talking Rotary based in Canada.  The opportunities are endless and she encourages the club to make more use of podcasting.
Thank you Dee for your very interesting presentation.  Our club is a mixed bag when it comes to podcasting and your presentation was very enlightening.
