Let’s get together Melbourne dinner 2025  - Venue Best Western Airport Motel and Conference Centre Tuesday 29th July 2025

Australian Rotary Health  provides funding into a broad range of general health areas, providing scholarships for rural medical and nursing students, as well as Indigenous health students. ARH provides funding into areas of health that do not readily attract funding, and promotes findings to the community.
Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of mental health research within Australia.
Australian Rotary Health provides funding towards research grants, fellowships and PhD scholarships focused on finding preventative and curative solutions for mental illness in young Australians.  From 2023, funding focus has narrowed to the mental health of children aged 0-12.

Australian Rotary Health is a project of the Rotary Districts of Australia and is supported by Rotary Clubs.  ARH has a broad vision to improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

The Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central has supported ARH regularly for many years.

Paul Ferguson and I  attended the dinner representing The Rotary Club of Bentleigh Moorabbin Central.  There were approximately 50 attendees.
We were joined at our table by 2 country Rotarians and 2 young recipients of scholarships.  After dinner and getting to know the young students at our table a Rotarian at each table was  asked to introduce a  student.

I introduced Harry who is involved in research at the Florey Institute. His subject is the use of A I in studying drug effects on mice to benefit future medical impacts.

Other Students included:
A clinical Paediatric Oncologist was doing further research  into treatment for  Acute Myeloid Leukaemia  in children.
A pharmacist was hoping to reduce the use of  sedation in dementia patients.
An Ophthalmologist researching eye tests that may detect Parkinsons long before symptoms appear.
Several other studies related to MS and PTSD in Men and Sleep Apnoea
There were several indigenous recipients. A Medical Registrar who is moving to Geelong to practise Psychiatry and a 3rd year medical student who hopes to incorporate more health education into a local indigenous men’s group.
All recipients spoke well and were passionate about their area of study.
It was a good opportunity for RCBMC  to experience another area of Rotary in action.
